SEO & Performance

A Faster, More Stable Shopify Store Starts With the Right Fixes.

Slow pages, shifting layouts and heavy scripts can make shopping frustrating. We measure what's happening, identify the causes and implement focused performance improvements. Faster, steadier pages are simply easier to shop, especially on mobile, where most of your visitors probably are.

Illustrative performance review interface with example data: Core Web Vitals for a product page on a phone (Largest Contentful Paint needing improvement, Interaction to Next Paint poor, Cumulative Layout Shift good), a timeline of what loads and when, and a prioritised list of example findings such as an oversized hero image, app scripts loading before content and fonts without font-display. What This Means for Your Shoppers

  • Pages that load sooner and hold still

Products appear sooner and nothing jumps around under a customer's finger while the page loads.

  • Fewer shoppers giving up, especially on mobile

Less reason for shoppers to give up on a slow or shifting page, particularly on mobile and on weaker connections.

  • A baseline and a record you can hold others to

A documented baseline and list of changes, so you know what was fixed and can hold future theme and app changes to the same standard.

What We Investigate

Each item is paired with an illustrative diagram of the bottleneck.

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS).

  • Image dimensions, formats, loading behaviour and responsive delivery.

  • Product video loading and third-party embeds.

  • JavaScript, app overhead, render-blocking resources and theme code.

  • Font loading, layout stability and above-the-fold content.

  • Mobile performance and template-specific bottlenecks.

What Slows Down Shopify Stores?

Most of a slow product page is a handful of resources arriving late or in the wrong order. Some sit in the theme, some belong to apps, and some are outside anyone's control.

Illustrative load timeline of a slow product page over five seconds, with each resource coloured by who can change it: theme files such as CSS, fonts, a large hero image and video are fixable in the theme; app scripts, a reviews widget, live chat and tracking pixels belong to third parties and are changed only by agreement; the HTML response from the platform and the network are outside anyone's control. Markers show first content at about one second and the largest content at about three and a half seconds. Example data, not a client's page.

Core Web Vitals, in Plain English

Google measures three things real shoppers feel. They are the yardstick for the work, and the real-user figures matter more than any lab score.

Illustrative explanation of the three Core Web Vitals with Google's published thresholds: Largest Contentful Paint measures when the main content appears (good at 2.5 seconds or less, poor above 4 seconds); Interaction to Next Paint measures how quickly the page responds to a tap (good at 200 milliseconds or less, poor above 500); Cumulative Layout Shift measures how much the layout moves while loading (good at 0.1 or less, poor above 0.25).

Measure. Fix. Verify.

We start with a baseline, prioritise changes with the greatest practical value, and compare results using consistent testing methods. Where possible, we separate lab scores from real-user Core Web Vitals data, because it is the real-user figures that reflect what your customers experience.

  1. Measure a baseline

We test the pages that matter on a mid-range phone over a throttled connection, and record the real-user Core Web Vitals where Search Console has them.

  2. Prioritise what is worth fixing

Each bottleneck gets an estimate of effort and likely effect, and we say which sit in the theme, which belong to apps and which are outside anyone's control.

  3. Make the fixes

Image, font, script and layout changes are made in the theme and checked in a preview before they go live. App changes happen only with your agreement.

  4. Verify and document

We re-test with the same method, note what changed and hand over a written record you can hold future theme and app changes to.
